In response to the hardships faced by local families affected by tough welfare changes & cuts in public services, a first action by the project was to establish a weekly advice surgery for residents at the Carpenters Road Hub on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Around 70 families visit the surgery throughout the year to get assistance on accessing rights and entitlements, whilst developing self-help habits of managing income and correspondence.
To date the surgery has raised over £100,000 in income and savings for Lozells families, and together with Action Lozells partners continues to campaign on poor housing and maladministration. The surgery is staffed by team consisting of a part-time Adviser and dedicated local volunteers.
